During my 10 years serving on the Carmel Unified School District Governing Board, I have worked with students, families, educators, administrators, and community partners to strengthen our schools and expand opportunities for students.

Student Wellness & Support

• Led the effort to establish Wellness Centers at school sites to support student health and well-being.

• Administered the district-wide Healthy Kids Survey to better understand and respond to student needs.

• Implemented a countywide-recognized anti-bullying program.

• Established the CARES Committee to strengthen support for students and families.

Technology & Innovation

• Supported the district-wide adoption of 1:1 Chromebooks for students.

• Ensured every teacher was provided with a computer, printer, and LCD projector to support classroom instruction.

• Supported the implementation of innovative learning environments throughout the district.

Academic Excellence & College/Career Readiness

• Expanded Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, including additional courses and project-based learning opportunities.

• Established and expanded Dual Enrollment programs, giving students opportunities to earn college credit while in high school.

• Increased Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings and pass rates.

• Expanded SAT/ACT participation and introduced PSAT testing for 9th and 10th grade students.

• Created a new College & Career Center at Carmel High School.

• Partnered with the Naval Postgraduate School to provide summer internship opportunities for students.

Environmental Education & Innovation

• Supported Carmel Unified’s leadership as the first NOAA Ocean Guardian School in the nation.

• Implemented Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) district-wide.

• Supported the development of a LEED-certified cooking classroom at MEarth.

• Supported the development of a state-of-the-art green building at the Habitat.

Facilities & Long-Term Investment

• Participated in the acquisition of an eight-acre property adjacent to Carmel Middle School, creating opportunities for future district needs.

• Supported major improvements at Carmel High School, including a new Macintosh Lab, Science Wing, All-Sport Facility, and Amphitheater.

• Helped ensure district facilities continue to support students, teachers, and the broader school community.

Community Partnerships

• Established a partnership between Carmel Unified School District and the Carmel Public Library Foundation to expand educational and community resources.

Carmel High School has consistently received state and national recognition for academic excellence, including:
